Kirsi & Lasse at TOP–Internship Omnia

It was a sunny August morning when we met Santosh and Petri at the lobby of AGrid. We were about to start our TOP-internship (learning at work) at Mehta Heino Industries at Otaniemi learning about 3D modelling and printing. The internship was due to last about two months (13.8.2019 – 11.10.2019). We didn’t have a faintest idea what was waiting for us. At this moment we were still smiling…

After a short briefing we were immediately ‘ordered’ to work. Lasse was assigned to designing new product gifts and Kirsi was sent to Omnia Makerspace to make some testing with different machines and filaments (materials). And things started to happen…

Then an urgent order interrupted our busy activities and all the machines were engaged to print parts for the customer parts on demand day and night.

And when we had survived the customer parts started Urban Mill Fair at the Espoo päivät happening, Habitare Fair with representing Arilyn App, Workshop about 3D printing and modelling for some 20 datanoms from Omnia Kirkkonummi and making a brochure of the MHI3D printer…

Along this all the testing and designing continued. We were exploring print parameters for example the effects of temperature, K-factor, retraction and speed on prints. We were remodelling the objects again and again and finally there was some improvement to be seen…

During this time, we learned to use many new and not so familiar programs such as SolidWorksFusion 360Simplify3DBurrtools3D BuildereDrawingsPages… Furthermore, we got to print our own projects if there was some time to spare…

All together our TOP-internship was time of eager learning and making of things. We felt that there wasn’t time enough to do everything we wanted. There would have been so much testing and nice items to be printed.
